Invest Today

Join us in advancing literacy across Louisiana and beyond through four key initiatives:
  • Help Families Discover Reading from Birth Support early literacy programs that educate families on the importance of reading from day one.
  • Louisiana Reads! Engage families with K-12 students so they have resources and initiatives that promote reading.
  • Reach Every Community Take literacy directly into communities, ensuring access to books and learning opportunities for all.
  • Support Communities of Learning Partner with us through volunteer efforts, funding, and events that strengthen literacy education in your community or statewide.

Together, we can build a brighter future through literacy!

Children from households with limited resources enter school at a disadvantage, making it extremely difficult to catch up to their more affluent peers.
43%
of Louisiana’s fourth-grade students are reading below grade level.
1 in 6
non-proficient third graders will not graduate high school on time.
We do not have to accept this as our children’s future
You can make a difference.

Data Shows

  • U.S. companies are experiencing a significant “skills gap,” with over 90% of CEOs reporting current skills shortages
  • High school dropouts are more likely to be incarcerated, costing taxpayers billions annually.
  • A one standard deviation increase in literacy scores at age 15 was associated with a 12% increase in hourly wages at age 27.
  • Children with lower scores on standardized reading assessments had higher self reports of internalizing mental health issues (e.g. anxiety & depression).

Our Programs

Louisiana Reads!

Promotes at-home reading opportunities through literacy awareness, book distribution, and direct service to families. The goal of Louisiana Reads! is to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and at-home learning.

Early Childhood Services

Our Early Childhood Services support educators through personalized coaching—both in-person and virtual—focused on instructional practices, teacher-child interactions, and child development data. Through Cornerstones, a BESE-Approved Ancillary Certificate program, teachers can earn their CDA credential virtually in just five months.

Literacy Coach Program

The Center partners with school systems to provide literacy specialists to support educators around the state. The Literacy & Learning Specialist provides training and support for Pre-K through grade 12 literacy coaches in schools and districts to ensure all students receive high-quality literacy instruction.

Louisiana Statewide Family Engagement Center

The Louisiana SFEC, funded by the USDOE, works with local partners to develop and implement a systemic, family-engaged infrastructure that improves student outcomes, empowers parents to implement at-home literacy strategies, and increases the capacity of local education agencies and schools to implement high-quality family engagement plans that are responsive to the diverse needs of learners in the state.

Lit Academy

Provides training and support for Pre-K through grade 12 literacy leadership teams in schools and across school districts to ensure all students receive high-quality literacy instruction. Our content focuses on the Science of Reading, interventions, core instruction with your curriculum, and more.

Growing Reading Brains

Builds teacher knowledge for overall awareness of the Science of Reading. Learning sessions can be delivered in person or virtually, as a five-day course with flexible delivery options.

Professional Learning Events

Our Professional Learning Events, including Plain Talk About Literacy and Learning® and Plain Talk About Dyslexia, provide evidence-based strategies to support all learners, including those with dyslexia. Educators gain practical tools and expert guidance to improve literacy outcomes in every classroom.

When you support The Center for Literacy and Learning, you’re investing in the future. Our programs and community initiatives empower teachers and families with internationally recognized programming, laying the foundation for lifelong learning.
