Empower Mentors. Elevate Instruction. Advance Literacy for All.

The Comprehensive Literacy Innovations Support (CLSD) program, developed by The Center for Literacy & Learning, is a game-changer for schools aiming to boost literacy from Pre-K all the way to 12th grade. This isn't just another program; it's a hybrid, high-impact mentoring model that directly strengthens your school's literacy instruction by empowering your own team.

Rooted firmly in the Science of Reading (SoR), CLSD builds the capacity of school-based literacy mentors through direct, job-embedded support from our expert Literacy Specialists. As a Louisiana-based nonprofit, we're dedicated to partnering with schools and districts to ensure all educators—especially those working with high-needs students—get the coaching, training, and mentorship they need to create real, lasting improvements in literacy outcomes.

Our Professional Services Delivery Model

Our CLSD PreK–12 School-Level Hybrid Support package is designed for maximum impact, delivering 94 hours of support per site over 10 months (August–May).

On-Site Support – 64 Hours

  • Monthly School Visits: We're there, on your campus, once a month (excluding December & April), for up to 8 hours per visit.
  • Hands-On Coaching: This means co-planning, observations, and real-time, actionable feedback right in your classrooms.

Virtual Support – 24 Hours

  • Monthly Virtual Sessions: Up to 2 hours each in August, September, October, November, January, February, March, and May. These are for real-time support, check-ins, and collaborative discussions with your mentors.
  • Virtual Intensives: Up to 4 hours each in December and April for deeper dives.

Professional Learning – 6 Hours

  • Asynchronous, Self-Paced Training: Flexible modules focused on the latest best practices in literacy and mentoring.

What Makes Our CLSD Support Unique?

Our CLSD support model is unique because we place a Literacy Specialist directly alongside your school-based mentors.

This partnership develops their capacity to:

  • Support Early-Career Teachers: Provide structured, targeted professional development for teachers in their first three years.

  • Strengthen Instruction for English Learners (ELs): Enhance teaching strategies for ELs and other key subgroups.

  • Deliver High-Quality Feedback: Equip mentors to give actionable feedback to new and struggling teachers.

  • Lead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): Empower them to lead schoolwide professional development.

  • Analyze Student Data: Guide data-driven instruction to truly impact student growth.

  • Model SoR Best Practices: Implement mentoring cycles that align with the Science of Reading.
