The Center for Literacy & Learning is proud to partner with Neuhaus Education Center and the Louisiana Department of Education to offer the Louisiana Dyslexia Specialist Preparation Program (DSPP).
This intensive, two-year professional learning initiative prepares educators to become highly trained specialists in the identification and support of students with dyslexia and pursue advanced credentialing as Certified Academic Language Practitioners (CALP).
The inaugural cohort includes 20 educators from districts across Louisiana selected to participate in this rigorous training. Launched in early 2026, the program is already making a meaningful impact, with cohort members providing multisensory structured language intervention to more than 80 students statewide.
Through this work, the program is expanding Louisiana’s capacity to support students with dyslexia and helping more students develop the foundational reading skills they need to succeed.
The inaugural Plain Talk About Dyslexia brought educators, administrators, practitioners, and advocates together for two days of learning dedicated to dyslexia research and evidence-based practice.
The dyslexia-focused learning that began through Plain Talk About Dyslexia continues as part of Plain Talk About Literacy and Learning® through a dedicated dyslexia track.
Attendees can dive deeper into dyslexia research, identification, intervention, Structured Literacy, assessment, and effective instructional practices while also having access to the full breadth of literacy and learning opportunities available throughout Plain Talk.
